Minister States MoD Investigating Security Risk from Vehicles from China, as Personnel Told to Refrain from Confidential Discussions in Vehicles.

An defense official has revealed that the MoD is actively investigating the possible threats associated with Chinese-made vehicles, and personnel have been advised to avoid discussing classified information in all cars.

Safety Advice for MoD Personnel

In a recently aired interview on LBC, a defence minister commented on reports that MoD officials have been told not to discuss classified information while travelling in China-made cars.

He said that the ministry is “looking into” cars from China within its fleets, but emphasised that security is a issue in every modern vehicles.

We have a fleet of tens of thousands of cars in the Ministry of Defence and Chinese ones represent a very small number.
But regardless of if you’re driving a Chinese car or a car from another country, what we’ve asked our people is to avoid connecting Ministry of Defence technology into their vehicle, not to have conversations at a secret classification in any vehicle, due to the increasing threats of eavesdropping that exist in every single automobile, to only have those confidential conversations in protected areas. That’s a wise and reasonable thing for anyone worried about safety.

After it was suggested that it would be prudent for the MoD to cease using every cars from China, the minister responded: That is exactly what we are looking into at the present time.”

Broader Defence Context

This revelation comes as reports from Scandinavian countries have alerted the UK to the presence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made electric buses, which could allow the Chinese government to switch off public transport and cause chaos to public transit.

Furthermore, a Russian intelligence vessel was reportedly directing laser beams at RAF aircrew, described as a “highly dangerous” action by government representatives.

The wider security situation underscores the significance of strong measures and vigilance in all areas of official activities, from vehicle usage to communication habits.
