Why the DNC is Hiding its Post-Mortem Report on the 2024 Race: The Inside Story.

The action by the Democratic National Committee to withhold the release of its own post-election analysis on the 2024 election seems remarkable however entirely predictable. Resistant to unpleasant candor, the Democrats' governing body behaves more like a PR firm than an electoral entity devoted to cultivating local power capable of prevailing at the polls.

A Climate Resistant to Internal Critique

Reluctant to break with the party establishment's culture demanding unity, the DNC has continued within that legacy all through 2025. Publishing such a report would have indicated that the leadership truly desire to foster public discourse regarding the missteps that paved the way for Donald Trump to return to the White House. However, the leadership is moving forward under the pretense that there is little to understand from the stunning loss from the last cycle.

The top priority: will this lead to victory? If the answer is no, it’s a distraction from the core mission," an explanation reportedly given to justify concealing the report.

Key Issues an Autopsy Might Have Addressed

A genuine analysis worth its salt would confront certain uncomfortable matters. This encompasses:

  • Voter Alienation: Losing among millions of voters who supported the Democratic ticket in 2020 was decisive in the narrowly decided recent race.
  • The Choice to Seek Re-election: The stubborn insistence by a party leader to stay in the race, and a last-minute withdrawal, is viewed as denying the party's base of a genuine choice.
  • Losing Touch With the Working-Class Base: During a time of inflation, the campaign is criticized for accommodating elite contributors without successfully attempting to address the role of corporate greed.
  • A Gaza Impact: The failure to shift a stance regarding a ongoing war reportedly led to losing significant blocs, especially among young people, Arab American communities, Muslim voters.
  • A Decline in Youth Allegiance: Polling data shows a major decrease of Democratic support among young voters.

A Record of Evasion

Choosing secrecy is consistent with a recurring tendency of sidestepping difficult realities. It echoes a situation where nearly all elected Democrat in Washington supported an incumbent's decision for running for re-election right up until a poor campaign event forced a change.

Meanwhile, overwhelming numbers of Democratic voters were continually telling pollsters that they did not want the incumbent to run again.

Financial Concerns

An honest autopsy could examine issues about campaign spending, including what sums went to insider consultants and ad buyers over the course of a campaign that managed to spend a staggering war chest during the general election.

The Underlying Problem

At its core, the suppression surrounding this report highlights an allegiance to party leaders that oversaw an unsuccessful national race. The implication to rank-and-file members – which includes countless dedicated activists – appears to be that they do not have a right to see the lessons the insiders have learned based on a report based on feedback from all states.

An organization unable to publicly examine its own failings is unlikely to escape the rut which was so advantageous to the winning candidate.
